Ampeg BA112 for $135 - worth it?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

I'm going to check out an ampeg BA112 from a guy on craigslist. I got him down to $135 from $175. Sound like a good deal?

Also - what's the deal with the 5 position tone selector? I can't find any documentation on what sounds that's expected to achieve.

Thanks

Ba112 is a great little practice/small gig rig. The 5 position switch is just something you can use to cop different tones. Usually when I see those on an amp, I find one I like and leave it.

Thanks Jimmy. Good to know. I just wanted to make sure it's wasn't some Roland-ish sort of amp simulation thing.

I owned the BA112 and it is one cool little combo - like Jimmy says, very good for home practice and small gigs.

I have one I use for rehearsal and low volume gigs - usually with a Jerry Jones electric or Breedlove acoustic. It has a nice, flat, uncolored tone - so long as you leave that five position switch in the first position. The rest of the positions are honky midrange-y things that I can't even wrap my brain around.

$135 is a good price if everything works.

Absolutely worth it. I'm not an Ampeg kind of guy at all, but I like this one.

Nice tone for such a small, low-powered combo amp. Only thing is, it just doesn't get very loud - if your drummer crushes the heads, he'll overpower you.

The BA112, however, would make a very nice recording amp, as well as being good for personal practice. For group rehearsals, it'd better be at low volume...

You can download the owner's manual from the Ampeg website. It shows the boost/cuts of the 5 position switch.
