Ampeg Ba112 vs. Crate BT-100

Sign in to disble this ad
Yeah, yeah, it's Amp day for me today.

I've been doing some shopping and I need to change my practice amp setup. I already have a Fender BDEC30 that I won't be getting rid of -- but I hate the way it sounds.

I have a line on an Ampeg Ba112 (50 watts) and a Crate BT-100 (100 watts and am trying to decide between them.

This is strictly for practice at home in my office. I just want something that sounds good at "in the house" levels.

Any advice one way or another?

I have had a BA112 for at several years for use at home and I
rate it very highly. I don't know where they are made now, mine is US made. I don't even use the preset EQ, just the regular three tone controls and the bass EQ. I play five bangers and have always been impressed with this little workhorse.
I use it pretty much everyday and leave it on for hours, of course it's solid state but still it's never had a problem.

The BA112 is an awesome practice amp, with great tone. Much better than the Crate.

Tired one of the G&L's. I got the bleed when the preamp was engaged and the volume on. Turn the vol off and the bleed goes away, Turn the pre off and play passively and there's no bleed.

I never noticed this before so I wonder why now. I'll try a MusicMan next.
