Ampeg BA115 Bass Combo - Help removing grill

Sign in to disble this ad
I use an Ampeg BA115 Bass Combo in the Praise Band I play in.
It belongs to the church.
Yesterday it started distorting at certain frequencies.

When this has happened to me with amps that I own, I've found that tightening up all the screws on the amp and speakers usually resolves the problem.

I just couldn't figure out how to remove the grill to access the speaker. My guitar player and drummer also spent some time trying to pry it off with screwdrivers. No go.

Does anyone know how to remove this thing?
I found the manual but it doesn't address grill removal.
There don't seem to be any screws holding it on. I removed the Ampeg logo and all four corner protectors and the thing won't budge.
This is what it looks like.
Can anyone help me?

Just get some kind of hook that you can stick behind the grill, probably in one of the corners and pull. It should come right off.

Do you have any idea how it's attached?
It seems rock solid on there.
I almost bent a screwdriver trying to pry it up.

I believe it's just velcro.

Yep its amazingly strong Velcro.

Using a hook tool (starting in any corner) usually works better than a screw driver because you'll be lifting instead of prying it over to the side.

There is a video by Ampeg on the Tube about how to take these off. In the video, they suggest you slightly loosen one screw on the logo, and use some pliers to pull on the screw head to get the grill off. I'll try to get a link to the vid.

Hope it helps.

Wow poorbassist15, That's EXACTLY what I needed.
I'm stunned at how perfectly you solved my problem.

poorbassist15 is my hero!

I like the idea of using one of the screws to pull it forward.
I'll try that next Sunday.
The screwdriver thing didn't work for me and I wasn't sure there was velcro behind it anyway.

Thanks
