Exclamation Ampeg BA115HP help with settings

Sign in to disble this ad

Hi there, I'm posting this because I couldn't find any threads with the information I'm looking for. If there already is/has been a thread, my apologies for the repeat thread >.<

ANYWAYS, I'm a bassist with a couple years experience, but coming up with tones on my own isn't something I'm exactly good at..the knowing how much of bass/treble/mid to create a certain tone. So my question is...what do you guys think/use? Thank you in advance for the help. Just post what number (1-10) you have the knob at for the low/bass, the mid, and the high/treble, what style you have it on (1-5), gain if you feel like it, and finally include what type of sound/tone these settings will create, throw in a bassist's sound if you want to compare it to. I want settings for the amp itself, settings to turn my knobs on my bass (1 bridge volume control, 1 neck volume control, and 1 master tone control), settings for the EQ pedal (right now I have the "frown face" dialed in on the pedal), everything you can offer, and like I said, a description(just a simple mention) of what sound/tone it'll create.

I'm looking for all different types, the more the better; it's not limited to just one style, like just a metal style of tone for example. I've got a little notebook I'm writing down settings so I can have a "little black book of tones". Just looking to add a bunch more to the few I already have. Again, thank you guys! I really appreciate the help/the info.

*oh, and note: these tones/this amp is being used with a Peavey Zodiac DE Scorpio bass with a Boss GE-7 EQ pedal ('twas a gift, that's why I'm using it for the time being until I get the EQ pedal for bass ) and I'm a finger player about 95% of the time. For cables, I'm using the Monster bass cables.

Put every dial straight up noon, and the style selector on 3. Work with that, make very small adjustments, like *maybe* turn the mids up a tad. Work on your playing technique, 'cause that's where tone starts.

thanks. but i know how important technique is to achieving a tone. i've tried playing with a pick above the bridge pickup, the space in the middle between the neck and bridge pickup, directly above the bridge pickup, with my fingers in those same spots, tried the Geezer Butler approach and rested my thumb on the edge of the neck and played between the neck and neck pickups, I've settled near the bridge pickup. with my technique down, now i'm just looking for different settings to mess around with, with my technique. i do mess around and create some tones. i'm just always looking at the settings people have come up with and jotting them down in said small notebook. i like having all these options for tones, increasing my knowledge (especially on settings for a tone that I could have never thought of to input). my goal is to have as many settings written in this notebook as possible; get as close to full as i can.

For the classic 70s Ampeg tone, position 4 on the style selector switch is the best place to start.
