ampeg ba300 210 having problems

Sign in to disble this ad
So my amp works fine until I turn up the volume on my guitar all the way. Doesnt matter if the amp is at all the way down or all the way turned up. i have tried a different cable, got a new tube(but i did hit a mighty big pot hole on the way back from the store), and went striaght to the amp(bypassed my wah)

When I turn up the bass guitar the amp distorts buy only on the e string and on about the first 5 frets. Its not the bass because I have tried my active and passive basses and it does it on both of them. The cables are cheap though, they are cheap live wires and it did seem to be a little better when I bypassed the wah with just one of them. Only other cable I had was one from walmart which is a first act. Should i try another tube? Invest in a cable for bass(i.e. monster,vox,corex2, etc)

please help me.

Is it an electronic noise, being amplified in the signal coming out of your speaker, or something of a mechanical nature? You could have something rattling cabinet or chassis-wise that shows up under certain tone/note frequencies. Also how are you running your e.q./tone stack on the amp?

I assume your referring to the Master volume knob there ^
Does lowering the amps Gain and/or Bass knob help any?

the 5 way tone knob is on 3(flat) the bass and mids are a little past 12 and the treble is a little under 12. its does it with the bass boost on and off. it sounds like a lightly blown speaker i guess is the easy way to discripe it. but it cant be blown because when i have the amp almost all the way down where you can barely hear it and the bass guitar all the way up you can hear the distort. Now when i turn the amp to about 3 oclock and the bass guitar at about halfway the amp is loud and sounds fine, but when i turn the bass guitar up past 3/4 it distorts like the a lightly blown speaker.

Sounds like a possible clipping issue to me, if you can get a loud, clean tone going on with the instrument volume pulled back.

Cables are not your trouble and Monster cables are a monster waste of cash. If even a passive bass does this then either your input gain is too high or the amp has a problem (uncontrolled gain).

Sounds like turning the gain knob down below 9 o'clock would be a good start.

The lowest notes require the most power to produce.

On all my amps, the lowest notes of my E-string always break up the soonest when using more aggressive Gain, Bass or Master knob settings.
