Ampeg BA600 Volume?

Sign in to disble this ad
If seen an ampeg BA600 for £600, i want to get a smaller amp anyway ive got back problems and cant be lugging around stacks anymore. I read somewhere that the BA600 does not have the volume to be heard over a 100w marshall guitar amp, which one of the guys have that i play with. Anyone here with a ba300 or 600 that can shed some light on the subject? Being a combo means i can save mu back a little bit more and use it as a seat!

The big problem with those Ampeg combos is the lack of an extension speaker out. You have to rely on the internal speaker(s) for all your sound, unless you send a signal to front of house or the Bands PA.

+1 the limiting factor on those is you're stuck with either a single 15, or two 10's. Neither is enough, imo, for band play. Wattage means next to nothing in terms of volume, it's all about speakers, multiple speakers.

im using an ashdown abm 300w amp with a 410 abm cab and a 115 abm cab at the moment, maybe ill see if i can get away with playing through the 115 cab alone at 300w and be heard at practice, surly the 600w 210 ampeg would be ok or no?

Basicly i want a small combo that dosent cost the earth that will be loud enough to play small gigs and be heard at practice.

Acoustic B200 - cheap, sounds GREAT, has speaker extension jack.

Check out the Gearwire Demo of the BA600 115.

The amp sounds fine and seems pretty loud.

I have a GK 700 RB II 4x10 and 2x10, but got tired of taking it everywhere. I play in a Neil Young and Crazy Horse tribute band, and it is very loud and crazy. I am now using an Ampeg BA600 in bars with a capacity for 400-500 people almost every week, and it is plenty loud. In smaller venues it is fine on it's own, but for 400/500 clubs I DI to our board and power amps on through to a sub, and the Ampeg BA 600 absolutely rocks as a bass stage monitor for me and the band. It rocks if used properly. If you want to use it as your only source of sound in a medium to large club, it's not going to do it, but if you use it as I do, you will be very pleased.

I went to see Australian Pink Floyd this week, in a theatre with 1000's of people, and the bass player had 115 and 210 - that's it!

Another suggestion...before you settle on a rig, why don't you try renting a few different ones and trying it out. Saves a lot of disappointment and lost dollars later.
