Ampeg balance adjust

Hi TB

I was thinking about the balance adjust.
Wouldn't it be possible to search on the net for a pure 40 Hz sine wave, load that on your mp3 and than feed it into the svt?
So you don't need a signal generator.
And is the dummy load nescessary? If you just hook it up to your cab and put the Volt meter on the parallel out on the cab?
And measure the VRMS.

Another question I had was the 25 VRMS, I assume you can get that by adjusting the volume knob?
And than adjust the balance pot until the led is on...

Would this work?
If it would, I would be able to replace the power tubes myself and save some money...

Thanks
Bart

yes, you can definitely do that, but i think that 25VRMS @ 40Hz @ 4ohms through a speaker cabinet is going to be pretty loud and could actually damage some speaker cabs.

Thanks John!

I'll try it by slowly increasing the volume, and I'll probably hear it when the speakers are getting to much (I will use ear plugs )
If the speakers can take it, I can quickly adjust the balance and then turn back down.

Well, I tried it, and it even wasn't so extremely loud as I expected.
And it certainly didn't hurt any speakers.
I did notice the balance pot is very sensitive just a light touch to it, and the led goes out again.
all in all a pretty easy thing to set yourself.

25vrms should be pretty loud, your meter may not be reading true rms. Either way you are done, adjustment would not be as touchy at the rated voltage but no matter. Good job!
