Just ordered a PF500 - I have a choice between 3 different Ampeg Cabs, all 4ohms, all used in good shape, all just under $300 . These are in my budget, and I want one 4 ohm cab
Also, how will the power of the PF500 handle each cab...
Ampeg B410HLF - 400RMS - 80lbs ($275)
Ampeg PR410HLF - 600RMS - 128lbs ($300obo)
Ampeg BXT115HLF - 400 RMS - 105lbs ($250)
(I had this same cab before, but always ran it with paired with a 210 bxt)
The music I'll mostly be playing will be older pop/blues/funk/rock in a cover band that will be playing outdoor events as well as bars/clubs.
So which do you think would pair best with the PF500? I already tried the PF115 Cab...it's not me

*I know, I know, there are some competitive LF drivers out there. |

So Jimmy, what is it you recommend in that range? |

My Eden D410T is supposedly in the weight range of the B410HLF, and I don't see any reason to bring anything heavier than that to my gigs! |

It's an "ampeo," so you know it's good.
Seriously, though, maybe search through craigs or other used sources for something with dual 15's.

But I must says , I have owned a B410HLf since 2003 and I still liked it a lot, it's not so heavy and I found a part of my sound in it, but the extra 200 watts in the PR worth it IMO...
I paired it with a classic 610HLF (600 watts) to move more air in the room, the 610HLF is a bit more low mid voiced (more classical) than my B410HLF. I prefer the high mid voice in my B410HLF though, escecially for slap, funk tones... If I had to bring only one cab to a show that would be the 610HLF for more power, playing death metal... They could be a nice option too...
hope that helps... |

I agree with Jimmy, you should just get an 810 if you're going to consider the PR410HLF. I had one that never left my house for a little while that I got for dirt cheap, and I ended up selling it because it was never going to leave my basement. That thing is extremely cumbersome. I'd say without a doubt that moving an 810 around was easier. I could barely get that PR410hlf in to my car to take it home when I bought it. If I HAD to pick though, based on sound alone, I'd go with the PR410HLF. |

It's actually easier on your back to transport too, bc you don't have to hunch over so much when you move it. I picked mine up for $250 from a friend of a friend, but there's almost always at least one on craigslist for something around $500 and you can usually talk them down from there.

I wound up getting it for $220. I'll save my back and a little bit of dough, and it fits in my car. If I decide I want to change cabs out later on, I'll be able to break even or better on the cab |

I figure that the load in and out lasts a few minutes, but some of my gigs are over 3 hours with a long-ass soundcheck/rehearsal before the show, and that's a long time to listen to a rig that's not getting it for me just because it's light.
Having said that, I got a really perverse pleasure last night from packing up my Micro VR/210 and P Lyte and hauling ass out the door before anyone noticed I skipped the meet and greet I hate those meet and greets. Everyone just wants to talk to Bowzer and we just stand there like dorks.

I would rather talk to Jimmy than Bowzer - but he has had an interesting career. Not exactly a superstar but many over 40's probably know of his work with ShaNaNa. Of course we all know Jimmy and talk with him daily.
