Ampeg cab pairing

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to matching heads with cabinets, so I was wondering if someone could help me out. Could, using an ampeg svt4 head (1200w 4ohms) paired with an ampeg 1x15(200W RMS, 400W program) and 4x10(400W RMS, 800W program.8 ohms), work? If so how would I get it to work. Sorry if I look like a fool here but I am really at a loss here.

yes, it will work, if the 1x15 cab is also 8 ohms (which is the case if it's an ampeg svt 15e cab).
Most people here will though advise you to get 2 x 410 cab instead of mixing sizes (1x15 + 4x10)

i would start with 2 8-ohm cabs and go from there. the svt4 actually has 2 power amps, but you'll only need one "channel" if you run at 4 ohms (i.e. 2 8-ohm cabs). as far as configuration, a 4x10 + 1x15 is a pretty classic set-up and a good place to start, but it may not be what your looking for.

the good news is it's hard to go wrong with that head (i own one and love it), just about any cab configuration will sound decent. the most important thing is to run the right ohms to pull max power out of the beast.

If the 1x15 is also an 8ohm cab, then I would advise running the head mono bridged (Please note this requires a specially wired cable) and then chaining the cabs together.

This is the best way to get the most power and volume from that head. Although some might advise against using a 410 +115 combination there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

+1 on what was already said. .....With this head its like having a race car and only going 45mph with it. I would try to get a used 810cab or borrow one just to hear it .....Good luck

Go for the classic Ampeg cab pairing. An 8x10 with... another 8x10.

Do it.

Many thanks! I'll see if I can try out different cab sizes before I commit.
