Ampeg combo

trying to get some feedback on an Ampeg 220 watt 2x10 combo that i found online for $175. dude from the Ampeg facebook told me they retailed for around a grand and they havn't been in production since '05 or '06.

i think this is the deal of the year (if the thing works). even if the DI doesn't work.

anyway, i'm just wondering what anyone thinks about this particular combo. i'm in a soulful rock band and i always, always go DI if available so i really only need to be able to hear myself in practice and on stage.

the only knocks i've been able to find so far are this, you cannot add an ext cab and it's not very loud in a full band setting. neither of those gripes have any impact on me.

i'm prob buying it if it works, just would like to know what you fine, fine folks of talkbass think about this amp.

If it works, I don't see how you could possibly go wrong at that price.

The late model Ampeg combos, IME, are not the most reliable amps in the world and don't cut extremely well with a loud drummer BUT they do have the Ampeg sound that we're all familiar with. It sounds to me like it would work fine for your purposes.

I bought one the other day for 200 on CL and the fuse blew up in two hours. Took it to my tech and he said it had messed up transistors and was a lost cause. Thank God I got my money back, the guy knew it was messed up and didnt bother telling me.
