Ampeg converted from Mesa

Ok I received Ampeg SVT 2 SLM ERA.
I just wanted to sell it, untill i tried it. It is so rich in harmonics, that Mesa 400+ sounded very poor and dry in comparison to it. I fell in love with Ampeg sound at instant. It has more bottom than Mesa and more heights. I would say that it beats Mesa in every way, dont get me wrong Mesa is a great amp but Ampeg is unbielevable. It is more hi-fi than Mesa, but still has lot of warm, tubey sound.
I love it.

You might need new tubes in the Mesa then. I didn't find the 400+ any of what you described.

Tubes were half a year old, Sovteks. I previously I had Tung Sols, that sounded much better but they went off after a year and half.

Pream tubes were Tung Sols. Cabs are two 1x15 Mesa RR. They sing through an Ampeg beautiful. Ampeg sounded much more fresh and juicy.

Odd. I played my Mesa 400+ through a 410. Maybe that was the difference.

And did you compared it to Ampeg SVT 2 pro when played one by one?

I have owned just about every Ampeg head made since the early 90's or used it in a studio environment lol. A couple before the 90's as well.

i have the MESA 400 and with KT88s its awesome. Those 6l6 tubes just arent bassy enough to me. Ive had and played through a few Ampegs. i just dont like them much anymore, personally. But hey whatever makes ya happy.

Ha! Welcome to the dark side. I dig my VB2 a lot, but nothing, NOTHING compares to an SVT, imo.

Ha! Didn't you see that he's from Chicago and I'm from Florida? You can't make that stuff up!

Well I can't say anything bad about Mesa tube amps except 12 power tubes is crazy.
