I believe they only made these as 18 and 12 so it would have to be one of those. Certainly looks like this B-18x though...

They are somewhat rare. No idea what it costs, but if he goes to sell it, I'd advise him to clean it up and take the beer off of it.

If it looks smaller than an 18", then it could be a B-15X. According to the Ampeg book they were only made for about a year and are super rare. Check the model number which should be on the top of the chrome chasis in front of the plexi logo, and maybe also inside the cab.

Judging from the size of the beer can and the baffle hole, I don't think it's a 12" OR an 18". The amp is definitely wider than a standard b15 series.

Interesting.

ok it's not my amp but i would venture to say we've all put a beer on our amp at some point. yeah they guy could take better care of his gear but he's going to get it serviced soon to convert it to a 3 prong cord.

i'll check the serial number next time im over there

You want to get the model number off the top of the chassis right in the middle from in front of the plexiglass logo too.

It appears to be a B18X. The elusive B15X was made in a year (ca. 1963,'64) that had an earlier control layout (for the B.12.X and the B15.X - (there was no B18-X or B12-XT yet)). The control layout on the earlier models included from left to right - six knobs, five 1/4 inch inputs in the middle, then three more knobs on the right (for the effects). The later models (B12XT & the B18X) had ten knobs with the five inputs in three different locations like the example shown in this thread. I also have a photo of a B.15.X that shows the speaker taking less space then this example. I would say it is worth about a $1000.00 if he was willing to ship it - maybe a little more if it was shined up

warning .. totally Off Topic:

"There's just one Schlitz, yeah, yeah, nothing else comes near.
When you're out of Schlitz, you're out of beer.
If you like it light with a good taste too,
There's only one brew that will do.
When you're out of Schlitz, you're out of beer.
Real gusto in a great, light beer – Schlitz!"

ahh, that really takes me back ... hey maybe another one

"From the Land of Sky Blue Waters
Hamms the beer refreshing
Hamms the beer refreshin"

geez, I am really thirsty all of a sudden! .. maybe I have a nice cool long neck Leinenkugel in the fridge

Carry on with the previous serious discussion of Ampegs
