2. The cabs paper serial number behind the grill cloth was smudged bad and fell off when I first went out to check it out. It has the towel bar and no spring loaded handles. It has the 4 pin connector and a svt metal badge on the back. I will also try to get some pics of the speaker date code today. | That makes the cab a '77 to '79 for sure.
My guess is the rig was purchased together making the head a '77 to '79.

Still half-stacked, and semi-bummed.

--Silvie | It's sounds round and warm or bright and slappity depending on how you EQ it. Overall it's a nice improvement over the Peavey Combo 300 and Fender Bassman 10 I had been using.
By itself with the FP350 (8 Ohms @250 Watts) the NEO gets a overly distorted and farty once the Gain knob gets around 7. With the gain set lower it isn't quite loud enough to hang with my band. Hooking up a 2nd 8 Ohm cab helps alleviate both issues.
One peeve that I do have is that I can't get the fat punchy tone I want, EQ'd evenly on all 4 strings. When I get the E and A strings to sound how I like them, the volume and presence of the D and G are too low. And I like to roll the tone back to eq out string rattle and that just exacerbates this issue.
Is bi-amping or a new amp with more EQ the only solutions for this?

| | | | I have heard many people complain about the new portaflexs, from what your describing to overheating. I had thought of getting one, as a backup/practice rig, but now I'm having second thoughts. Anyone have one they use as a live rig and are happy with it?

Anyone have one they use as a live rig and are happy with it? | My main rig has been a PF500 with two PF115HE's for about a year and a half now. I really dig the way it sounds and it gets positive compliments wherever I gig it. I did have some initial hiccups with the compressor (never had an amp with an onboard comp before), but after an email with Ampeg and the tech's advice on how to dial it in, no problems.
If you haven't caught it, there's quite a thread series on the PF350/PF500. Check out Part 5 Here. There are definitely people that have had problems, but I also feel like there's an equal amount of love for the PF series as well. Also, for those that have had problems, Ampeg customer service has apparently proven to be pretty responsive.
Something to remember (and it certainly could be just a theory on my part) is that the people gigging PF's without any problems don't really post about that. It may seem like there are a lot of problems because the ones with problems come to TB for advice.
No one I know tells me when their car runs right and gets them where they want to go, they tell me about when they have to take it to the shop.

5sg. | Well put. I guess I'm just biased toward all tube rigs. It's just hard to cough up the money and be disappointed. I've toyed with the idea of a B15 for many years, now with the choices Ampeg offers, the decision is harder. I had a chance to demo a Micro-VR and was pretty impressed with it, but not the price tag, which I thought was a bit steep for what you got.

I've owned a ton from the 2000's, and some from the 90's, but never mid-late 70's. This is my third flatback and by far the cleanest. These are definitely the best.

I currently have this one and an '06 810AV for sale.

| | | | The difference between a straightback 810 and the 'newer' towel bar models is too incredible to describe. If you ever have the chance to compare, jump at it and be converted. Whatever the head - the oldies have much more clarity, frequency response, low end, punch and what have you. TheDialog - screw that dolly off and put it straight on that nice wooden floor of yours, and you'll be even more amazed.
