Ampeg and a Gallien-Krueger?

Sign in to disble this ad
im looking to upgrade from my 90 watt amp. but i like the Ampeg tone but dont have the ampeg cash. so this is what im looking to do have the Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head with the Gallien-Krueger 410MBE 800W cab. i chose the 800w so i have some room for upgrades later. is this a good combo or should i go with the Ampeg Micro-VR Bass Amp Head and SVT210AV Bass Speaker Cabinet Stack. its a hard choice. im a huge fan of jason newsted's sound and Alex Webster, i play with a pick. any advice greatly appreciated gig wise is small clubs to small/medium clubs.

in my opinion that is a great setup, however for just 100 dollars more you could have the pf500 which has more flexibility.

Yeah the PF500 has awesome tone capabilities and is wayyy loud ! Definitely worth the extra $100. It will take you a lot farther along in your volume/tone quest !

I personally like to match Ampeg heads to Ampeg cabs to get that Ampeg tone. The GK cab certainly didn't fit my tone - YMMV.

PF-350 with SVT410HE is awesome.

I use a Gallien-Krueger 10001RB. It doesn't really fit my sound, but I compromise with the sans-amp D.I. To get the tone I am looking for. I play with a pick, fingers and slap. I have been using it for years now, great amp.

I too think that is a good idea but if you really like the Ampeg tone you also really need the Ampeg cabinet because that is a big part of Ampeg’s sound and the two together (amp+cab) give you that real Ampeg tone.
