Ampeg HLF/HLN 4x10 Speaker Replacements

Sign in to disble this ad
So I might need to replace a speaker...or 2...or all. I'm not sure yet. But I might need to be on the lookout for some new speaker(s) for my ampeg 410. Any suggestions on a solid brand? Some that might not break the bank?

If it's an HLF, I want to say that some folks have dropped BP102s in there without too much issue. That's a hazy recollection though.

You could also contact Ampeg and ask about the Neo drivers for the HLN possibly.

Generally speaking though with a 4x10, if replacing anything but all four drivers, you want to either replace with the exact same drivers or drivers with very very similar specs (if the exact driver is not replaceable).

I try to post this whenever possible...my HLF was miswired from the factory, and only two of the 4 speakers were getting a bulk of the power. It was enough to crease both of them. I rewired them, and now power is equal across all 4 speakers and I haven't had them "fart" out since. You might want to listen to yours to verify if you have the same issue.
The BP102 sure looks a lot different than the stock speaker. It's much bigger. The stock HLF speaker is only 6 pounds, so I wouldn't waste money on Neos unless it was blown. Still, a new one is expensive, so I see why people are looking for alternatives if they are going to spend the money anyway. Please let us know what you find out from Ampeg if you ask them.

It is an HLN. I'm having a friend take a listen tonight that knows a lot about cabs/speakers. I'm still in my phase of moving from a combo amp, so i'm still learning. I think i'm going to email ampeg soon.

If it's one driver, buy the original, if it's two drivers, buy the original, if it's three drivers, buy a quad of Basslite s2010s.

Well, if you end up having even one good stock driver that you don't need, I'll buy it from you...
