Ampeg HSVT-CL and Orange AD200B trade

Sign in to disble this ad
So I've got this killer Orange AD200B for sale, and a fellow has offered me a trade for his 2010 Ampeg HSVT-CL. They retail for the same price, but I can't find a used HSVT anywhere to see it's resale value. I currently have a late 90s SVT-CL that nails the tone I'm looking for, but wouldn't mind having the new HSVT model. Anyone know if the HSVT is holding up to its inflated retail price? Also, anyone know of a secure way to trade gear over the intertubes other than shipping off my beloved Orange, hoping I don't get a box of bricks in return?

Thanks in advance for any help!

If their retail is close the reselling price is likely similar, at least for the time being with no real basis for comparison. If you have a CL now that you like, the HCL is going to be very similar but with upgraded tubes and components. If it's worth it to you, go for it, if you're looking for something with a very different sound probably not so much.

As far as doing trades over the net, I've done it on multiple occasions. Talk the person before, deal with people with good feedback, get phone numbers and converse IRL, send pics of packing if you want, and make sure you get a tracking number. And insured shipping.

When I traded my V4 for an SVT (shipping cross country) I had a bit of a panic moment when FedEx had no record of the amp being picked up/dropped off. Turned out that they changed the tracking number when they reweighed the amp at drop off and never told anyone. It showed up on time though and sounded great. Just have to have a little faith I suppose...

I wouldn't do it unless if you wanted to sell your SVT to free up some cash. Especially if the Orange can offer you something that the SVT couldn't.

Thanks for the tips guys. I would definitely be selling the other SVT to free up some cash... it's actually the only reason I'm letting the Orange go. Love that amp, but I love my SVT more!

tough question made even tougher to answer because so few people have played a heritage svt cl, including me. i've played every other one, though. all i can go by is reports i've heard from others whose opinions i trust, and the word has been very good. but i don't think anyone's done a direct shootout with the heritage and regular cl's on here.

but i am a huge fan of the look of the heritage, especially the grillcloth, and i could be talked into getting it for the look alone. if you do get the hsvt, you absolutely have to get a matching cab and there's no way around it

as for shipping security, the only thing i know of is to find an escrow place that will hold the money for each of you and not release until both of you sign off on the deal. but it'll cost you.

Sounds like a good trade, isn't the Heritage SVT a limited edition? or at least they only make a limited amount every year.

Limited edition. It looks like - if they continue the trend - it will be a limited run each year. I think the heritage SVT was 250 or 350 units?

At NAMM 2010 the rep said 250 HSVT-CL units on a video I saw... So I'm thinking it would be a good trade as well. Working out the details. The Orange is still for sale until then however... If anyone else is interested!

I would trade the Orange for the Heritage and sell the CL that you like the least out of the two. You could be the first to let us know what your impressions are when you A/B them. How do you know if you are going to get a box of bricks? Trust. Cheers.

Just an update... ended up not doing the trade. After the phone call I didn't feel so confident with the deal, so I sold the Orange and will be keeping the old school SVT instead. It's a bummer it didn't work out, but I'm still in good hands with the SVT-CL.
