Ampeg and Mesa anyone try this one

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Ampeg v4b classic coming my way next week sometime. I have a Mesa powerhouse 4x10 i was planning on using it with. Anyone try this?

I have done alot of research about matching the Ampeg with a efficient cab. I have played a LMII thru the Mesa and it was ear bleeding loud. I realize the Ampeg is only 100 watts and the LMII @8 ohms is about 250 watts. I only needed to turn the LMII up to about 9 o'clock on the dial and it was plenty loud. I'm not really to concerned about the Ampeg not being loud enough, i was more wondering about the Ampeg sounding less than ideal thru the Mesa.

The obvious answer is ......wait till next week and then you will know if you like it or not. Just hoping for some encouraging words about this matchup. If it sucks i"ll just get a Ampeg cab to match.

Anyone with experience?

I am sure it will sound great. Ampeg stuff tends to be low mid emphasized. Mesa seems to have the high mids. I think that between them that could balance very well. I've been looking to pick up a V4B for recording actually for this reason.

I haven't used a V4B throught the Mesa 4x10, but I have played the SVP-Pro (+QSC poweramp) throught the Powerhouse 4x10. I don't recall the sound, as it was a few years back, but I remember it was good.
More recently I've been using the SVP-Pro through the Mesa Powerhouse 2x10, and it sounded very nice.

Not sure how the SVP-Pro compares to the V4B, but if it's a similar tone, then it will be very nice throught the Mesa cabs.

I'm sure it'll sound fine - whether it provides enough clean volume for your tastes/needs remains to be seen...

Thanks for the thoughts. I have been using a b100r combo amp cranked and find that to fit pretty well with what I'm doing. I do need to use the line out to carry the rooms but the combo has been enough for stage volume.

The b100r is what has me hooked on the Ampeg sound. I've had tons of other amps but none have made me as happy as the Ampeg. I'm hoping the v4b into the Mesa 4x10 will put that smile on my face.

I thought about just getting another b100r and splitting my signal into the 2 combos but i really want to try an all tube Ampeg. I do have some flexability, if the Mesa doe'snt work out Ampeg cabs pop up on my local craigslist all the time. The Mesa cab is a great sounding cab with a LMII so I'm hoping the Ampeg will do as well.

My B-15R is 100w and I've played it through my Mesa 2x15 cab. Yeah it sounds pretty large going through a very efficient cab.

I like how my berg nv412 matches up with my 71v4b better than my mesa diesel 4x10 (deep). It still sounds good but it may be the sealed berg cab sounds a little bit better to my ears.

I have seen where people really like sealed cabs with there vb4's. I'm guessing the cabs that originally were designed for the vb are sealed?
