Ampeg Micro-Cab SVT210AV to use with my Vintage SB-12?

Sign in to disble this ad
I ordered an adaptor from Fliptops so I could use my 70 Ampeg SB-12 with a different cab.

This would be for home use only.... as is all my gear lately

I really like the sound of the Micro-VR setup...I've tried it in store a half dozen times by now. But I don't really want to buy the head as I have 2 Ampegs already, the SB-12 and a minty USA B-100R.

I think the SVT210AV and the SB-12 might do a nice home playing level SVT impersonation. I guess it really depends how much of that tone I like is coming from the cab or the head?

I think it would sound radically different than the stock cab...which isn't the most efficient design (not that the Micro is either)....... which is great for the P-Bass with flats but a little too boomy for my Jazz with SS Rounds and pedals.

The voicing of the SVT210AV might be perfect for the latter.

I think

Another way...

What about just changing the speaker in the SB-12?
Making sure to store it in a safe, temperature-controlled place, of course.
I've found that for home practice, the SB-12 has the best tone of any amp I've ever tried. My '68 had a complete over-haul last year, and I installed an Eminenece Beta 12. It's plenty loud enough, with the volume set at 12:00, to play along with the stereo. A BIG stereo.
And ditch the pedals. They're not necessary.
