As cute as it is, the Micro-VR won't be cool until they load this baby with tubes.

I like it. The AV/VR look never gets old to me.

i like the look of the older one better. IMO, the big aluminum valance below the faceplate looks more 'vintage ampeg' to me (and had to cost more money for them to include it).

Yeah!! I like the look of the valance, but the switch, metal jack input & is that a jewel light- all look the goods to me.

No matter the cosmetics..the head reminds me of a small dog that I would like to punt.

This.

And if the "Ampeg powers that be" are listening hopefully it will be reasonably priced.

I've had one.
You can't realistically get 200 watts worth of tubes and transformers into something that size.

If you want tubes, you might like the V4B better, if you don't like the Micro, but I think the Micro sounds great, really.

Well if it had tubes it wouldn't need close to 200 watts really would it?

Is it just me or does the redesign look overall shorter than the original? I have one of the first design, decent sounding for what it is and pretty good as a practice amp of for when I don't feel like carrying the real deal around, but there seems to be a lot of dead space in the amp. Like they tried to make it look exactly like a mini-SVT/8x10 (and did a good job) but things like the valance and front grill are mostly just cosmetic. This looks like they tried to make the space a little more functional.

That could be it too. The only place I could find pics with the switch were store sites that didn't seem like they were recently updated, and the ampeg official site is still showing the in-market variant rather than this other one.

You've got it backwards. The "New" design is actually the original photos from Ampeg before the Micro-VR actually hit the streets. I know this because I had one of the very first Micro-VR available and when I pulled the amp out of the box, I was surprised to see it didn't look like the original photos, with the nicer switch.
