Ampeg Micro-VR volume/gain question

Sign in to disble this ad
So I just got my new Ampeg Micro-VR and single SVT210 cabinet yesterday. Sweet, sweet tone - but the volume control seems a bit odd.

When I crank the volume button up, I don't get a ton more volume. When I crank up the gain knob I get more volume. This seems odd to me.

Anyone else experience this?

Crank the gain to get the preamp signal up to where it should be, then crank the master to get the speaker volume up where it should be...

This^^

Gain is the signal level coming in from the bass, volume is the level going out to the speaker. You can't send very much out the backend if you don't have enough coming in the front end.

Yep. Besides, the Micro VR sounds awesome with the gain up.
