Ampeg Ohmage Question: go 2ohm or 8?

Hi, I just finished my V2 4x12 cab project, with help from this site I'll add.

I wired the 4 new lightweight Eminence spkrs in series-parallel to be 8 ohms. My head is a V4 (cut from a VT-22) with the lovely 8-4-2ohm switch.

QUESTION: Is there any virtue in running 2ohms in to a 2ohm cab, over running 8ohms in to an 8ohm cab? Other than the parallel wiring for 2ohms being easier? John K puts a 2 / 8 switch on his cabs but I'm keeping it simple. An 8ohm cab is easier to pair up with other cabs I know, but I'm not concerned about that; I want this to be the best, maximized stand-alone unit. I'm also running =C= 6550's (yes re-biased) if that affects anybody's advice, thanks!

None. OTOH with only 2 ohms impedance you won't be able to run a second cab should you ever wish to, and you won't be able to use the cab with a different head that can't run into a 2 ohm impedance load.

John did the 2/8 ohm switch on his V4 cab so that he could use it with an SVT set to 2 ohms. There shouldn't be any difference and keeping it 8 ohms will probably be more useful in the long run.

Got it, I'll be keeping the cab at it's 8 ohm impedance.
