Ampeg PF-350 + 2 ampeg svt210av cabs. Anyone tried?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just wonder, does it have same issues of Micro VR head combined with those two cabs? It seems that PF350 and Micro VR have pretty same filling, so, i suppose, one may have same troubels running it through 2 x 210av cabs. More on that Micro VR issues you can find here - Ampeg Micro VR issues poll with new video
Thanks.

If you look in the Micro VR club thread there is indeed a guy from Norway I think running that with no issues.

Ampeg has fixed the Micro VR head issues, just waiting for a fixed product to come off the production line I guess.

Yes, I know, but Ampeg dealer in a city not far away from me, offered me to trade my Micro VR for PF 350, and I think it gonna be much easier for me to accept that deal, and have PF-350 in two weeks, than wait to Micro VR get fixed, and shipped, e.t.c. Though, I like VR sound, I think there is no big difference between these two.

I haven't had the chance to directly AB them in the same cab, but based on my impressions of the PF350, I'd say the only difference is the PF350 has 150w more in the tank. It's class D whereas the Micro VR is class AB, but quite honestly, I didn't notice anything that made me think they were different sounding.

I pulled the trigger on this rig over the weekend. I want to thank Jimmy M and others who responded while I trolled for answers. I went through ZZounds. They beat the Guitar Center price and split it over 4 months. The total was $730 and I still get the $50 rebate. Can't complain about $680 for a new rig. I struggled when it came to picking cabs. I own a B100R as well as Linden and SFT pedals. I have the B15 is sound covered. Now I have the SVT. Can't wait to break them in.

Good call, Mr. M! BTW, this was my rig this past weekend:

Worked great, and one of the best live sounds I have ever had. Of course, I can say that about any Ampeg rig I've ever owned

Oh sure, I've got plans. Just no money for it. But honestly, their working stiff rigs are working so well for me that I'm not complaining. Already owning an SVT and B-15 helps get me over the pain, too

That's a darn purty bass Jimmy. I didn't know you had another P/J besides your white one?

Thanks! I've actually got 4 PJ's now. Two actual Fenders, an SX, and a parts bass. But for some reason, the white P Lyte keeps calling at me to play it, even though I hate the look It's just so easy to play and light that it's hard to resist. But that bass was the first good bass I've ever owned and I bought it new, so I'm trying to work it back in. Only things original on it anymore are the body and neck plate, though, but it still rocks pretty hard.

Can you run the 350 with just one of these?

Thinking about getting a smaller cabinet to use for rehearsals and saving the 410 for gigs.

Yep. You might want to watch cranking it super hard because it could blow the speakers, but I've done the PF350 with one 210av a few times and it works well.

Thanks Jimmy.... I thought with the micro cab being 8 ohms I might be able to get away with it, but there is still a slightly bigger wattage so I want to be sure.

I'm still a bit of an amp novice.

Well the PF350 is 200w at 8 ohms, so there's possibility of blowing the cabs, but for light medium duty cabs, they're pretty hardcore. Just remember that if they sound like they might blow up, it's a distinct possibility. Other than that, you'll be fine with it.

Well, I sold my Micro VR and bought a GK mb200 to go with my 210av. Sold my VT Deluxe and bought a PF350 and it sounded so good that I sold the GK and have my second 210 on the way. Can not wait to hear this mini satck O' Doom!
I'll weigh in when I get a chance to Rock it!

J!

I use my PF350 with 2 AV cabs all the time, in fact today. They work great.
