Ampeg PF 350 Vs GK MB115

Went out to buy the PF 350 on Friday. I was disappointed at the volume. I switched guitars to a new MIM Precision and I got the notorious pop I have been reading about. The amp was dead and I didn't know how long it would take to revive.
Plugged into a GK MB115 and was pleasantly surprised. Major tone and plenty of volume .
I also bought a 50's Precision and the combination of the two is awesome. (IMHOP). Sweet dark thunder that fills the room.
Played it at church for the first time today. At first they told me to turn it down (I had the amp at 12 0'clock, then I got lots of comment about the tone. Our drummer was astonished when he picked up the amp. I like having 200 watts of power in a package that weighs 35 lbs.
I switched from guitar to bass about six months ago and got cheap equipment until I determined how committed I was to bass.
This is a huge upgrade for me and I am a happy man.

The input gain on the pf350 needs to be set high but they do have decent volume. Good move getting the 50's p bass. They are one of the better sounding p basses. I have been through alot of p basses but nothing came close to this. I would also love to try the gk mb115. I'm using the pf500 through the pf115 and that combination is also killer with that bass. I havnt plugged that bass into anything yet that didnt sound great.

+1 to what was stated above. I have played through the pf350 and pf115. That is a great setup. but it does need to be pushed pretty hard to get a decent volume level.

I just purchased a GK setup myself. I got the GK MBFusion with the Neo410 and that is one amazing setup if i do say so myself. The portaflex line from ampeg is really great value for the price though. I owned the pf500 with the pf210. It had really great vintage tone but the cab was just a bit to in-efficient for my taste.

after 20+ years of playing bass and almost all of those years with Ampeg, the switch to GK was seamless. Although GK will get ganky on you if want. I prefer the fat warmth of their Fusion amps. Good buy on the MB115!

I'm also using the mbfusion with a 410 with another group I'm in that plays a little louder. I think the mbfusion has to be my all time favorite head. The pf setup nails a good vintage tone but i do love the fusion for louder jobs. The fusion really does have a nice fat warm sound.

ganky, or just gank, usually means "aggressive upper mids". similar to clanky, though i usually associate clank with actual treble and/or playing roundwounds with a pick. at the end of the day these are all just words we made up to describe the indescribable, just like "grind", "bark", "thud", "whomp", "punch", "air", "grit", and "smooth".
