Ampeg pf500 with an eden 2x12xlt a good idea!

Hi,

After suggestions on whether the above would be kickass. I play a usa p and am currently over my ampeg 410hlf with the pf500 as there is too much muddiness in the low end. I can see why some would like it (I.e 5 stringers) but all I want is a fat yet portable rig to play a variety of styles from funk, rock, dance etc. I love the pf and with my ear against the hlf there's a beautiful sound there but that gets lost in the mud when the hlf disperses even a few feet away.

Would the 2x12 eden have the clarity in the top end as a 410 would? I know ill get a fat yet right bottom end but curious as to whether there will be a lot of difference compared to let's say an eden 410xlt.

Your ear hears 4x10, 6x10, 8x10 etc same as mine. Go vertical and everyone's a winner.

Totally disagree. The frequency emphasis will change from each speaker configuration. It's true that a good cab is a good cab regardless of configuration, but my question is will the eden xlt 2x12 specifically give the tight yet fat lows AND the top end associated with what most players would expect out of a 4x10.
I've had many cabs from 8x8, 2x10, 4x10, 1x15 and 1x10 but don't know anything about what a 2x12, specially
The eden xlt 2x12 would offer paired with my usa p and pf500 head.

Well, I love my pf500 through my eden 212xlt. Best sound I've ever had. The beauty of having a dirty-esque head with such a transparent flat sounding cab is that none of the unique characteristics of a more colored sounding cabinet like my hlf I had conflict with the tone. That was the prob with the hlf- too low and too muddy, I'm sure the hlf would have worked better with a more hifi head like a gk or eden but honestly I love the pf500 tone and wanted a cab that would work with it. I think from now on ill always use flat sounding cabinets and leave the dirt and eq up to my head or vt bass.

My sound now really speaks ampeg with my j and p, and I don't have to rely on room acoustics for a good tone like I did with the hlf.
I only really had success with the hlf when I played large outdoor gigs. When I need that firepower with my current rig ill use pa support.

Lastly, 12's kickass. The perfect balance of lows from the 15's and highs and snap from the 10's. i was always reluctant in fear i would lose top end in going to 12's (like 15's) but im getting great iverall response across the frequency range.I play a wide variety of styles and techniques Ina. Number of bands and can see this current setup sitting firmly in the mix more than any other rig I've had.

I've heard awesome things about the 2x12XLT. I'd love to try one sometime.

Sometimes I wonder why people get the HLF in the first place. I guess our ideas/preferences change over time. My first cab was a very dark Ampeg 2x15.

I play my PF500 with an HLF and I am not real happy with it. I play an Ibanez ATK750KOA. I wasn't sure if its the guitar, amp or cab. I was going to run some tests with the combo this week. I actually figured it was more of needing a tube amp. Now I need to test it out more.

Well, i played the 2x12 for the first time last night live, to a crowd of around 200 in a boomy room. Played a range of covers from hard rock, funk to roots and pop. The Eden
2x12xlt won in spades compared to the Hlf through havgin more clarity and as presumed no low end mud. It's a tight focused low end with plenty of punch but also a low end presence to hold the band together. A word that springs to mind in describing the sound with my PF500 and usa p would be 'warm'. Plenty of articulation there when the ultra's were pushed in too for the slap stuff, but i got a greta slap tone without them too.

Very pleased guys. Best sounding rig i've ever had. Felt like i could rule the world with my tone. I've never played so good in months. It's funny what effect an unsatisfied sound has on your playing from a tecnical perspective. Never again though

The PF5s are really nice sounding heads. W 12s it's gotta be great
