Ampeg PR410H

I just bought a used Ampeg PR410H cab. There's surprisingly little out there about this amp; folks usually are talking about the HLF. Any words of wisdom about this amp? I'm a bit worried about its weight and have some buyers remorse. Tell me its worth it! It sounds good with my GK 800RB amp, but gets a bit farty (for lack of a better term) playing the low B on my five string. I have the Master all the way up or at 9 o'clock and the gain about half way...and that's loud...so maybe I'm maxing out the amp rather than the cab. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

I had to 210 a while back, it was pretty sweet! I just hated how heavy it is, and it does take up more space as well.

As far as I'm concerned, the PR series was absolutely the BEST cabs that Ampeg has made to date. Here's the major drawback: Weight.

If I'm not mistaken, the weight of the 4X10 is something like 137 pounds.....and the 8X10 (that lasted all of 6 months) weighed in at around 230 pounds.....but DAMN!!!!! They sound great!!!

Unfortunately, in this day and age, the excessive weight ain't gonna cut it...........

I've seen these cabs go for extremely cheap....I had the opportunity to buy 2 of the PR4X10s for $400 - that's $200 per....but, my Wife said that she would kill me in my sleep if I bought another amp or cab......

I owned that cabinet, and am currently waiting to buy it back from the person I sold it to. The best cabinet I have played through, IMHO. Yes it weighs a a virtual ton, but the sound is superb!

I sold the cab because i took a couple years off from playing in a band, due to my daughter being born

Had one and loved it...but as mentioned above...it is heavy.

I've never owned one - but if I could have found one when I was shopping for a 4x10 I would have bought it, and dealt with the weight somehow. Why did Ampeg stop making these?

I'm surprised you're finding it "farty". The one I heard that made me want one had no trouble reproducing a strong, clear fundamental on an open E string, and I wouldn't have expected it to have trouble with a B.

I'm not familiar with your GK, could it just be running out of oomph trying to push that much power at 31 Hz?

Thanks for everyone who answered my post. I practiced with my band last night for the first time using the Ampeg PR410H. Totally rocked. I mean, fantastic. We practice in a small but high-ceiling space with a full acoustic drum kit, so it's *loud*. But the 410 totally kept up. I had the amp's master volume all the way, the gain at 10 o'clock only and no boost...no problem. Clear tone, tons of oomph, nice highs. The drummer helped me load it in and seemed OK with the weight; I'll just have to help lug his drum kit around in exchange, but it's worth it. The band liked the amp a lot, too.
