Question Ampeg Preamp Output

Sign in to disble this ad
I am using an Ampeg B5R head with my SVT 810 and it is just not putting out enough clean power. I recently came across a Crown xti1000 at a great deal and was wondering if i could run it through my B5R safely. In the Ampeg manual it reads for the Preamp output:

"This jack is a direct preamp output for use with an external power amplifier, mixing board, external effects, etc. Connect the external unit input to this jack by means of a shielded instrument cable. Using this output does not break the connection to the internal power amplifier."

Can I run my Crown xti1000 bridged at 1,400 watts safely through my B5R? Is there any other way to use just the preamp in the head with an external poweramp? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you can. I had the same head with the same gripe. I used a mackie bridged mono and it made a huge difference.

just remember that if your cab sounds like it will explode, it probably will.

I'll keep it aimed at the lead guitarist! Thanks for the quick feedback.
