| Ampeg SVT-1000: whats the verdict?

Anyone have extensive experience with this? Im told this is the same preamp as the B4R.
Im looking to get a tone similar to the clean side of the SVP-Pro.
Obviously the back of the amp says 1000 watts, which in Ampeg terms means closer to 500....
any other caveats on this unit? Does the "Texture" sound anything better than garbage?
Posters please compare to other SS heads etc....
