Ampeg SVT 2 Pro faulted twice, then back to normal?!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everybody. During band practice the other day, my SVT 2 Pro head was booming along just fine until the sound cut out all the sudden. I looked over and the fault light was flashing, so i killed the power and fired it back up again. After leaving it on standby for a few minutes, I gave it another try, and everything was fine for about five minutes, then it happened again. So i repeated the power off, power up, then standby, and looked to see if the power tubes were all lit up and they were indeed hot. I then turned the gain down slightly and turned the drive knob to zero and continued playing and she finished out the day with no problems. is there a problem here, or was i jsut playing too hard for too long? this is my first tube amp so if i sound naive, i apologize. (i play a 1976 Ibanez lawsuit p bass with a boss ODB-3 pedal and have the head hooked up to a 610hlf classic cab if any of that helps).

Have you got the impedance select switch set correctly to match the cab's impedance?
Tubes do get hot! Too hot to touch. This IS normal, but amp cutting out ain't.

Is your speaker cable Speakon connector or 1/4"? Check to make sure it's hooked up properly between head and cab... maybe something is rattling loose back there?

Might be time for new power tubes. Mine startes doing that at full volume when tubes are about three years old and lots of hours on them. Or it could be low line voltage at the place of usage. If it is used just take it in for a check up if you can or order some new power tubes. It would be worth it to know what you got.
