Ampeg SVT 2 pro RATTLING NOISE!

Sign in to disble this ad
When I play my svt 2 pro at a decent volume there is a rattling noise. Its definatly not a 'buzz' comin out of the speakers because of wiring or anything like that. It sounds more like somthing is lose. I checked/ tightened all the screws on the outside of the amp. Any suggestions? Not trying to take it to a tech as this doesnt seem like a crazy complicated fix and I just dropped a lot of money for the amp. Suggestions? Could it be from not putting it in a rack yet and something on the inside has rattled lose?

You're saying something inside the head itself is rattling, right?

As a brief test, take the amp off the cab and put it on a padded chair or something -- anything that will acoustically decouple the head from the cab. Make sure not to block any air vents. If the buzz goes away, then yes, something inside has rattled loose. The next step would be for someone to go inside the amp, but with a tube amp this can be dangerous even with the amp unplugged (if it was recently powered up) if you don't know what you're doing, so I can't really recommend you yourself do it. Might be worth an hour of tech time to have someone go in for you and sock everything down tight, and put Loctite or lockwashers in as appropriate.

After the problem's fixed, run your amp with some sort of vibration isolation, again being careful not to block any airflow.

could be a number of things, a spring retainer might just be loose, or something inside could've rattled off. Take off the case, check the tubes and if that's not the solution, bring it to a tech if you're not comfortable going any further than that.

I have the same issue with my 2Pro and it sounds like a retaining spring rattling against a tube. I started using a gramma pad between the head and cab and the problem is solved. I should probably open it up and see if I can spot what's rattling, but this has rectified the problem. The tech I had it with recently said it wasn't good to have this head sitting on top of the cab without being isolated anyway...
