ampeg svt 2 problem

calling all tech heads !! ive sent my svt 2 pro to the shop to get looked at, problem was it had a loud hum with no input, the amp tech has looked at it several times they changed a cracked 6550 tube but that was it, however they told be today they discovered the hum goes away when using a 4 ohm cab as opposed to an 8 ohm, however this being a stereo head i would have to run my ampeg 810e cab in mono mode to get a 4 ohm impedance thus only using one half of the amp, there is no 8 ohm setting on the amp so say hypethically this amp was brand new with no problems could i run an 8 ohm cab with the amp switched to 4 ohm ??

The SVT-2 Pro is not a stereo head, and it should only be ran at either a 4 ohm or a 2 ohm load. You shouldn't be running an 8 ohm load on it.

No. And it's not exactly a stereo amp, it's a mono amp with parallel outputs, ie. it allows you to plug 2 cabs into the same output. You should probably stay on the safe side and use a 4 ohm load or 2 8 ohm loads.

Both outputs jacks are tied together. It's parallel output and not separated at all.

Picture this: instead of having 2 separate faucets (stereo), you've got a faucet splitter attached to a single faucet (parallel mono).

the purpose of the two output jacks (parallel mono) is so you can hook up two cabs directly to the head if you so choose instead of daisy chaining 2 cabs together thru one output jack. the results are the same. but you should not be running that head at anything other than 4 or 2ohms.
