Ampeg SVT 4 Pro + Mesa Boogie Powerhouse 215

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello everybody,

Is it possible that some of you guys could give me some info about this setup? I use an Ampeg SVT 4 Pro and a SVT 610 HLF cabinet since 2005 but now I'm looking for a second cabinet and I have been searching a lot of info concerning the Mesa Boogie Powerhouse 215 cabinet. Here in Belgium, you can't test this cabinet unless you order one to buy so I want to be sure that I don't buy the wrong deal. Does anybody have any experience with this cab and furthermore, how this setup would perhaps work out? Thanks in advance!!

The Powerhouse 215 is a great cab, but if you intend on using one with your 610, that's a bad idea. If you really need more than you're getting with the 610, adding another identical cab is the way to go. Search, this is a very common theme around here.

The PH 2x15 would probably sound awesome and huge by itself with the SVT-4. I've heard the Ampeg 6x10 is a nice sounding cab, but not the loudest.

I used an Ampeg 2x15 years ago. It can produce some serious lows, but it's almost extremely dark sounding. 2 6x10 sounds like a great rig though... will keep your clarity.

One problem.............

The 610HLF is a 4 ohm cab.

if you are running it bridge now, you can't add a parallel cab in bridge, you will have to run them each on a channel, which actually cuts your power (but adds effective "power" due to more cones).

If you are using one channel now, you are OK, put it on the other one.

Thanks all for the great advices! Well, I'm not planning to use the SVT 610 and the PW215 together with the 4 PRo. I'm planning to buy this cabinet to use it on it's own. After 6 years with the SVT 610 (which works and sounds fantastic) I'm looking for something new and this cab just caught my eye.

I'm awaiting delivery of a PH215 - when it comes in, I'll be sure to post a review of it... I've played thru one several times, and really liked it - it could do the "old school 15s" vibe well - big, fat, round, and deep - or, it could sound more modern, just by changing amp EQing and horn settings...

I currently have a PH810, and also had a PH610 - and am admittedly a Mesa fan, but think that if you're looking for a 215, either this one, or Berg's NV215(discontinued) are the best out there...
