Is the Ampeg SVT-410HE a sealed cabinet design?

Their website doesn't say in the specifications provided. I have a choice between the SVT 410HE and a SWR Goliath lll (which is front ported) to be used with my MarkBass Tube 800. I think these cabinets are two different animals in terms of tone. Any thoughts on the choice? In terms of generalizing the tone of these cabinets, SWR is "modern" and the Ampeg is more "Old School", no? (I don't even know exactly what that means! )

Think of old school as throwing a big blanket over the cab or over your ears. The high frequencies are more muffled and the cabinet throws some of it's "character" into your sound. Wooly is a term that I use a lot. Using the Ampeg would be a bit like rolling off your tone knob a bit or cutting some treble on your head. A modern cab more clearly reproduces the sound that your amplifier sends to it.

Also, I'm fairly sure the HE is closed and is basically half of an 810E.

Yes, your HE is sealed just like its big brother the 810E. I think of dirty over driven sweet tubey tube goodness when I think old school, right between the kick drum and the low E on a guitar, it the pocket doing your job with a P and an Ampeg full stack rocking out. Modern to me is a J bass through Gallien-Krueger slapping and popping like Flea and all the other "Lead bassists" out there. It is hi-fi and bright because of tweeters and says to me hey guys don't forget about me, I need attention too. I like old school, but that is just me. Cheers.

The 410HE also has a tweeter and the 810 does not.So you can get the twang of a tweeter or turn it off when u don't

IMO, the 410HE is more mid-rangey and doesn't have the low end thump I associate with an "old school" ported cab. All depends on what sound you'r going for. The 410HLF is Ampegs ported 410 - but I would play through whatever you are looking at first before buying to see what works for you.

Yes, The SVT410HE is sealed and has a tweeter and maybe because of it, the 10" speakers don't have much high end or usable mid-range. They also won't get you the low end of an 810E. I bought one hoping to use it with my all-tube Sadowsky SA200 but it's not really an "old school" sounding cabinet.
