Ampeg SVT-4pro Preamp tube?

Sign in to disble this ad
Iv'e read in a few places that Ampeg uses a a groove tube 12ax7 in the first position and two more 12ax7's. Are they trying to say they use a chinese groove tube or russian? I know in a lot of guitar amps a chinese is prefered in the v1 slot wich makes a diffence in opening up an amp. does anyone have a preference or is the tube game more of a guitar players obsession?

I've used SVT-4 Pro's exclusively for 14 years (over 1,000 gigs) and I've played with different 12ax7 type tubes and never really noticed that MUCH difference.

Thanks for the reply, I dont think I do Either, all my extra tubes are russian, was just wondering if a chinese would make a difference and if during making the amp if it was designed for a chinese in the v1 slot. In Mesa and VHT power amps they call for chinese in certain slots.
