I've never played the 5 PRO. I can say that I had the 4 PRO and while it was solid, it was always difficult to get a great tone out of it. Good tone was easy, but we all know how the quest for tone goes...

I do think I remember hearing something about MAJOR reliability issues. I also don't think they were in production for very long. I could be wrong on both counts, though.

I had a 5 pro. I found the overdrive channel pretty terrible, The 5 Pro has only one tube inside it and struggles to get anything close to a signature ampeg tone.

Go for the 4 Pro.

The 5 PRO's distortion channel is not very flexible tone wise. The clean channel has a decent sound, but you can't really do much with it.

The 4 PRO at least had more power - the tone can be great for some people. But I am glad I don't have my 4 PROs anymore.

Might I add another variable into the equation...
The SVT-4Pro I almost got was listed @ $697 after taxes&delivery
The SVT-5Pro was listed @ $479 after taxes&delivery

For the price, which one is the better deal?

I think the 4 PRO is still the better deal. More tone variables to chose from.
