| | | | I would say go for the Ampeg SVT 610 HLF cabinet. Great sound, extreme durable and very easy for transportation. I have this cab since 2005 and it has never let me down. My cab was made in the USA but I believe Ampeg now produces in Vietnam so there may be some difference on a few points of specifications but I'm not 100% certain. Anyway, the Ampeg is in my opinion an excellent choice. |

| | | | I say the Berg. Although I have never heard one, I have read vast numbers of reviews for them. What I've gathered is that it's essentially a smaller, lighter, more sensitive and robust SVT810, only with even more tonal flexibility.

I've played an Ampeg 610 a few times and found it to be a great sounding cab (also nice to move around!), but these days I would prefer a sealed cab without a tweeter. |

The Ampeg is a ported cabinet and the Berg is a sealed cab. Their individual characteristics are going to reflect that. My main concern then would be price points.
New, the Ampeg will run you around a grand and the Berg will run you about 1,400 (or thereabouts).
Finally, the ultimate authority will have to be YOU and what you are looking for in a cabinet. They will both get the job done.
Good luck in your decision!!

I have played the Bergantino NV610 side by side with an Ampeg 810 (driven by an SVT2) and preferred the Berg FWIW. The sealed cab thing really seems to work with tube heads. That said, there are also many posters here who love the Berg with solid state. There has been a whole thread recently on the Bergantino, if you search and read it I am sure you will see what the general consensus is. |

If you're looking for the classic SVT punch then get the Bergantino! The NV610 is smaller and lighter than the Ampeg 8x10 that it's modeled after, and is a better cab overall IMHO.
The Ampeg 610HLF is something else entirely. I'm sure it works for some folks, the NV610 has been my #1 gig cab for over seven years. I'll always kick myself for selling the one below (long story). It was one of just two made with red tolex (my current one is black tolex) |

The Berg does the "ampeg classic sealed flatback cab tone in a smaller package" very well. It's a little more hi fi ish than the svt, which depending on what you want can be good or bad.
Personally I would go for the berg. I own a SVT 810 and am sold on the sealed cab tone. You just can't get that from anything else. |

| | bringer of brown noise | | Join Date: Mar 2011 Location: Minneapolis, MN | | | i have owned 2 ampeg 610's, an ampeg 810, and now a berg nv610. the ampeg 610 was pretty easy to move around with the side handles (both the 810 and 610 have the tilt back caster wheels and built in towel bar, but the 610 also has side handles) and weighs a little less than the 810. that aside, i didnt really like the sound of the ampeg 610. a) its ported, which i am generally not a fan of. b)didnt really like the tweeter. and with the insane amount of high end from all the od/distortion i use, i almost blew the tweeter multiple times. the ampeg 810 sounded way better than the ampeg 610. but after reading all the reviews on here and then finally getting to try a berg nv610, i was blown away. all the punch (if not more) of the 810, but with way more low end presence and waaaaaay easier to haul. weight is not really an issue to me when it comes down to it, but it was definitely a plus. as others have said, ultimately it all depends on what sounds good to you. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
