| | | | Ampeg svt-7 on 810 - good idea?

Hi
I am looking for a new bass rig. I used to use the one of a friend, and i think i am now ready to stand on my own feet and have my own sound system. I thought about an Ampeg svt-7 into an svt810E. First question: does this even work or will i blow up anything with that arrangement?
I am not that familiar with bass brands and all that stuff. i do play in a metal band, and we do play loud as a **** and also bigger stages on festivals... so it should be lound and match the heavy metal sound.
i got to ampeg by rex brown. i saw that he uses svt-4's, so i thought it wont be a bad decision to go with ampeg, but id like to hear some other opinion before a get out and waste a lot of money...even though i got a really nice offer for that svt-7.
Any help or reference is very much appreciated!!! |

Some are more legitimate than others from an engineering standpoint. I think that the Verellen Meat Smoke and Monolith cabs were a hit recently with the doom guys but I don't know where to send you. For metal I'd ideally either use an overdriven tube amp and two 15's or four 15's or a very clean high power rig. Maybe a fEarful 15/15/6/6 or two. I have no idea what i'd drive two of those with though! |

Make sure it's a 'REV C' model -as there were some issues with some earlier models. It's written on the top next to the s/n

To me at least, the 7 pro sounds more like an SVT-CL/II non pro or PRO, with it's one pre amp tube, than any other amp I've tried, many WITH multiple tubes in the pre amp.
Just my opinion....

Your rig will sound great, and you will not blow anything.
Just FYI I play metal and hard rock. |

It was really, really good. If my back were healthy enough to move it every week, thats the rig I would run. It wasn't even a matter of "its great for a 15 lb. amp", it was just flat out great! The ultra low is better on the 7pro than other Ampegs, push that in, bump the mids, and its super fat. I use two lightweight 15" cabs now, but there are times when I long for the fridge behind me!

I am trying to down size to one right now from an SVT 4. Great classic tone from a small package. I would also suggest getting the Ampeg 610 cab to put underneath the SVT 7. Its easier to move than the 810 and sounds superb imho. |

What kind of issues do you mean? Something bad? Cause i got a nice offer of a new svt-7 for about 600 bucks, off of a closing store... so i cant really tell about how old it is, id have to go and check that REV C thing...
I think itll be the best if i get out in the shop once more and convince myself one more time and then buy it. I wasnt sure if hartke would be better, but i can only tell if i hear em both. Ill let you guys know about my decision! |

If you got a warranty-cool! Many earlier models work fine too.
Was an issue with the limiter afaik.
But if it's going, & works when cranked, should all be good.
I've had nothing but greatness with mine

During soundcheck he said he could only hear me and the drums - a first! I use and 810E also. I have two SVT3Pros and a 410 and I really love the sound that combo makes, but the -7 is close in sound quality and drives the 810 way better. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
