This might be kind of a stretch do some of you, but I traded my Eden WT-500 for an Eden rig with the SVT 7 Pro and a Classic 410 cab. I...... Like my ampeg more then my Eden. It's a great head, super reliable, and sounds amazing.

So does the 7 look better in a rack case or whip them ears of and have it free standing?

I think it looks great in the carvin rack case and it's still ridiculously light to boot!!

I might just be joining this club here shortly. Tell me why I should get the SVT-7pro over an Ashdown EVO ABM III or a Markbass little mark 800?

If you use it to overdrive, how do you like that?

There's very little to choose between the three, actually. The biggest difference between them is their character. They each sound like what they are (i.e., the SVT-7Pro sounds like an SVT, the EVO sounds like an Ashdown, and Little Mark is every inch a Markbass). I prefer the way the Ampeg sounds, but have been tempted to add the Ashdown to my stable. Overdriving the Ampeg has a wonderful, throaty, tubey, Ampeggy goodness to it, but frankly, it is when you need to be loud and clean that it really shines. The Ashdown is pretty much always grittier than the Ampeg, and has less output (unless you are looking at the 900, but that's a ton more money). I generally don't need as much crunch as the Ashdown has, but it does distort really nicely. Obviously, again, the Ampeg sounds best to my ear.

I never tried the MarkBass but I did previously own several pieces of Ashdown gear (RPM-1, ABM500 EVOII, several cabs) and I really like the grind and EQ of the Ashdown. It's a good head with plenty of power and I miss having it. I also like my SVT7PRO and it is more different than similar compared to the Ashdown. Either amp I would be happy with. Only advice I could give is maybe buy used and if you don't like it sell it off and try the other.

Did anyone else have a difficult time getting their rack ears on? Two differently-placed pairs of holes didn't line up at all on mine
I put mine in my skb 4. One of the machine screws was mis threaded out of the box, but ampeg sent me a whole new rack mount kit free.

Don't know much about the Ashdowns, but the LM heads have no overdrive capability except for the Little Mark Rocker.

EDIT: Forgot...the overdrive on the 7 Pro is quite good. Won't make you forget the sound of actual power tube distortion, but it's pretty darn good for a mild/medium overdrive.

I played an outdoor show 1 month ago where the back line was an Ashdown with an SVT cab. Walked in really pumped to use this amp but could never get comfortable with the EQ even though the stage sound was great. Oddly enough, Ashdown was a recommended amp from Jim Bergantino when I bought an HT322.

Did you look at Marshall? Is there a noticeable difference in the two? I see one on Ebay.

So I took the rack ears off which cured the flightcase vibration, and got a plastic flightcase from maplins (uk) for around £50 which fits perfectly, looks a bit weedy on top of my cab without the flightcase ........ Till you turn it on of course
