Ampeg SVT-7 Pro with effects

Sign in to disble this ad
Over the last 2 days I was messing around with my SVT7 Pro using Fodera 2000 and Boss GBE7 in the effects loop. Wow! I was impressed with the svt7 pro effects loop but this just confirms my initial feelings. The loop is very responsive and those two effects changes the character of my sound in good ways. Anyone else tried anything in the loop?

I never use amp loops ever. Even the best loops only sound as good as plugging straight in, and never sound better to me, and sometimes sound worse. This is regardless of whether it's an instrument level or line level effect.

I'm using a compressor through the loops. Sounds and does as it should.

I think the difference with the 7 is the wet/dry mix knob might make the loop interesting.

Hmmm...wet/dry mix? Better.

+1, I've never used an FX loop B4, but the blend control on the 7 pro (& the PF500 IIRC) has me intrigued. Am gonna try it. Just ' when ' is the question.

I also mess with EBS BassIQ and it sounds amazing, even better than through my Aguilar DB680. No knock on the Aggie but with the Ampeg it is ease of use and quick response.

Other guys rave about the 7 compressor but I think it just squshes my tone. Maybe I'm not using it right.

Well the main rule I've had for compression is that if you can hear it working, it's too much unless you're using the squash as an effect. And I've never been a fan of onboard comps in amps anyway, and I'm to the point where I don't even like compression at all and I rarely use it anymore. Love the 7 Pro, never once touched the comp so I couldn't tell you how quality it is, but try dialing it down to its mildest setting.

I'm using it either off or at about 8-9 o'clock, unless I PLAY with the gain etc a lot to dial in some grit.

All this SVT7 talk is giving me some serious gas! If it is good enough for Rod who has ditched his SVT2 (gasp!) then I may have to look into it. Might be time to say goodbye to my Markbass backup and grab one of these I think - the VT pedal into the Markbass never really worked for me.

& not only my SVT II, BUT my NV cabs too Damn my rottings backbone!
Yep, loving the 7 pro. Reminds me a lot of the SVT II, but won't, of course, do the fulll on pwr tube OD.
Will get some fur tho , esp if u dial it on right.

Tim, I'd never suggest giving up your VR for it, but hand to God, the 7 Pro is the best sounding SS head I have ever plugged into in my life. Way too much amp for me...the PF350 is more my speed but if they ever made a PF500 with that 7 Pro tube circuit in it, I would be on it like flies on poop.

I'm the same, I dunno much, but I know what sound I like..........
That STL didn't do it.
I just cannot SEE HOW they're describing it as ' just like an all tube amp.
I''ve been using all tube for 30+yrs & it sounds/acts like none I've ever come across....
& if I try to mention this to some poor unsuspecting buyer in a country where he can't try one & so dst online order, I get jumped on & ridiculed (not by GB guys tho)
:-/

Yea I keep loving the 7. Zero compression for me though. Other stuff in the effects loop is more than good enough. Also glad they solved the "volume" issue I had with the 3-pro.

I recently ditched the LMII for the SVT 7 Pro, and I haven't looked back... It's powerful, and the Ampeg sound is something LMII could never give me.
