Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Question

Ok I read through the thread at the top of the amp forum but it doesn't really yield a definitive answer.

I'm considering an Ampeg SVT-7 Pro head (1000 watts @ 4 ohms) run through my 4 ohm Ampeg Classic Series SVT-410HLF cabinet (RMS Power Handling: 500-Watts).

Is the head too powerful for the cabinet or should I assume that running the rig at normal, reasonable volumes will be safe for the cabinet? I'd like to have the power to spare so I can run it with my Ampeg 810E if I need to.

That's what I suspected. Thanks. I wish the threads that are stickied could be condensed into a shorter more user friendly guide without all the arguing and pontificating.

Just listen to your speakers. It'll be fine to run it, just don't turn up too much.

I'm using an SVT7PRO with my SVT410HLF, and it works great!! You just have to be sure you are not running close to full gain/volume!

Oh yeah, that'd get ya kicked out of any venue long before the speakers blew I'd guess.

Thanks all, I'm 23 years in but I've never really learned the nuances of amplification as far as pairing the right things together goes.

If the Ampeg 4X10 were 8 ohms instead of 4 ohms it would be fine. The power out of the SVT7 would then roll back to around 700W and that difference is OK. Using an amp that is twice the rated power of the cab is pushing it.

The head does not automatically put out 1000 watts....regardless, your logic is not very sound and the user will be 100% ok with 1000 watts or any other wattage amount. If the 410hlf starts farting out, immediately lower the bass content (below 100hz), and if it still farts, reduce the volume. The 410hlf is a bottom heavy cab - so be careful with boosting the low end.

Thanks for all the input guys. Does anyone know of a good book or other resource on the subject of wattage, ohms and paring amps and cabs and whatnot? The sticky thread here just ain't doing it for me. I always wanted (and needed as you can see) to learn more on this stuff.
