I want to purchase a new high powered portable bass amp. Not sure whether to go for the ampeg svt 7pro or markbass tube 800.
Has anybody tested these amps? |

I'd pass on it personally. I went with the Streamliner & thats ALL tube warmth if thats what you want.
I got nothing on the 7pro!
Good luck
EDIT: See the markbass customer service thread as well thats active now

I do think Genz Benz is amazing as well.. in a band setting, Ampeg shines through a bit more for me than with my Genz Shuttle 6.0.. same cabs.. the guys above are quoting the NEW Genz stuff... I think the SVT7 is possibly the best bass amp I have heard for under $1500.. (you can get it easily for $700 or less, new). |

The SVT was a great sounding head but I liked the tone of the MB for what i'm playing which is classic rock and blues. It seemed to have a deeper warmer tone a little more old school. But again a lot depends on your cabs, bass and the type of pickups you use. Best to go to GC or another music store that has both and try it with your gear.

I have a Genz ShuttleMax 12.0 and got nothing but love for it...very curious to try a Streamliner for bass guitar only gigs. I do lots of doubling gigs, so the SM12.0 does the trick for me.

With more information, those with direct experience with these amps can offer better opinions on how suitable such and such amp may be for you.

SVT 7- Loud, light and sounds like an Ampeg. Hard to go wrong since Ampeg has been the most commonly used bass amp for many many years.
Genz Benz Streamliners- Loud, light and sounds like a GB with a beefier twist. Not so hi-fi sounding as the ShuttleMax stuff. Warmer, bassier and tubier, but still have that upfront, quick GB thing.
I honestly don't think you could go wrong with either...the thing that tipped the scales and made me become a GB artist, is that the support and service of that company is epic...best in the biz.

I since he wants something in the 1000w range the Streamliner 900 would get him what he needs. i do like the Ampeg, but just love new lightweight gear. Genz Benz Streamliner 900 - YouTube

I play in a rock/ blues covers band so the sound needs to be versatile. up till now I have been using a little mark 11 and a 1by15 markbass traveler cab. I have added a 2by10 markbass traveler cab so want to upgrade to a higher powered amp for increased headroom. I use a Sadowsky NYC j bass as its light, plays like butter and the active onboard EQ is very versatile. |

Compared to the Streamliner, I find it to be too boomy/muddy compared to the mid-plenty 7PRO.
All three equally quality product, just different tastes. Either way you're in good hands |

However, it may not be the most versatile amp around. I'd give some consideration to the Genz ShuttleMax 9.2 for covering greater sonic territory with loads of headroom.
As stated earlier, the 7Pro seems a good amp for what you're trying achieve too.
The availability of service and support in rural Ireland might be a consideration as well.
