Ampeg SVT 8 Pro confusion

Sign in to disble this ad
So out of boredom I came across this today while searching for ampeg bass head images.

Can someone explain this image to me?
This "SVT 8 Pro" is clearly a 4 space rack mount head ala a SVT 4 or SVT 2. And it certainly doesnt look like that image is 23 pounds as it says (Obviously the description is off the Ampeg page)
But every other SVT 8 ive seen was a 2 rack space head that looked like that image but shrunk.
What am I looking at in that picture? A prototype? I mean man that thing looks cool, super expensive but cool.

Any Ideas?

And I did do some limited google research and didnt find any apparent explanation.

I think it might have been a prototype picture or something that was screwed up on the site. Ampeg: Pro Series - SVT-8PRO

That is truly what it looks like. I have seen and played two of them.

Yeah, that does look taller than the current model:

Ampeg Pro Series SVT-8PRO 2500W Bass Amp Head: Shop Bass & Other Musical Instruments | Musician's Friend

It has a very similar chassis to the SVT-7 Pro, but the 8 has the vents in the front.
Oh yeah, and another 1500 watts!
The size and weight is all about the Class D power amp section.

The picture just got squished to fit the column of some magazine, and the website used it. Happens all the time.

I think this ^ is correct. I just cropped the pic the OP posted and stretched it a bit. Here it is; introducing the 8Pro...

Also comes in a micro...

There's only one kind of 8PRO that I know about.... and I worked on the design, so......

Anyway, with lots of computer programs you have options when sizing pictures. Just for example, with MS Word, when you "grab" a picture in the text , there are "grips" on the corners, and in the middle of each side of the picture box. The corners shrink/expand it proportionally in both directions, while the ones on the sides just shrink/expand that direction*..... so the proportions get distorted. I bet that's what happened.

* Yes, the editing system can grab those with a proportional scaling tool, but.....

I have said it before, and I will say it again, that SVT-8Pro is an amazing head, and probably the most impressive implementation of class-D I have seen/measured.

Aw, don't say that, Tom! Just when I was getting used to the idea of the 7 Pro being the most impressive implementation of class D I had heard, now you tell me that this $2000 amp is even better?

Um, yeah? But that's OK...if I showed up to a gig with that and the cabs to run it, I'd be instantly fired, so it's just as well. I'll hold out for the Micro VR Tube.

Tom what's the lowdown on the 8 pro? I like the simulated tube power amp section and power reduction capabilities.

I read on eBay there were only 30 US made 8 pros?
