Ampeg SVT-806HE Wiring Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey,

I recently picked up an Ampeg SVT-806HE with a wiring problem.

I can't find a wiring diagram for this cabinet at all.

When plugged into the 'Speaker w/ Horn' jack I get only Horn.
When plugged into the 'Speaker only' jack I get nothing.

I believe the cab is wired with a combination of series and parallel wiring so if something isn't quite right with the series then that could cause all the speakers to loose volume?

Tested speakers with a 9V they are all good.

Any help is much appreciated!!

I looked around and couldn't find any diagrams for the speaker,

Check for a faulty jack!! both of them I don't know but they could have contacts in them to take the other speakers out of line depending on which jack you have them plugged into.

I always though they were wire all in parallel but..

I would check that each wire and terminal first. If one of the series wires is off or bad that could be the problem since you tested each speaker individually.Be sure all speaker terminals are good and tight and follow all the wires.

you could contact Ampeg directly for drawings.

Im sure SOMEONE on here can help you. Good Luck.

I don't know if this helps you

Bump.

I've checked all wire connections, seem solid. Tested all speakers AGAIN, all working.

Next step I guess to re-wire the whole thing?

The board that the jacks are wired to has some capacitors on it, maybe one of those went bad? What would be the symptoms if that had happened?

Best bet is probably to say heck with the original wiring, figure out what you want then do it:

-what's the impedance of the individual woofers?
-what's the total impedance of the cab I want to achieve? (Chances are there's only one that makes sense)

now do the basic math on paper, and wire it up.
Chances are that will be close to the original anyway.

The horn w/ separate jacks could make it a little trickier, but I wouldn't bother me as I'd say stuff the horn anyway ;D

You probably have something wrong with your crossover. If the speakers aren't working on either input but the horn works when it should, you have something wrong between where the crossover splits the signal and where it reaches your speakers, whether that means the crossover itself is bad or the speaker wiring is off is what you'll have to figure out.

I believe that's a 4 ohm cab right? So they're probably either 32 ohm in parallel (like an 8x10) or 8 ohms in series parallel.
