Ampeg SVT 810e + SVT 7 Pro

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I'm about to buy a new rig and have figured out that i want a SVT810 e with a svt 7 pro.

But when I went to my music store they had a svt 6 pro wich I can't find on ampeg.com

What about this amp? Is it good? better than 7 pro? Is it a new model or is it an old one wich they no longer produce?

What about the SVT& Pro. I have never seen it before. IS it a good amp? How is it compared to the 7?

The 5 and 6 Pro's where discontinued. I like the 7 Pro sound, power and light weight.

the 7 pro is ampeg's high power class d amp, and it's much lighter than a 6 pro. the 6 pro is a great amp, but ampeg already had the 4 pro and the 6 pro was more or less a single channel version of the 4 pro, so it got the axe because most folks went with the 4 pro.

Thanks for helping out!

I was very into buying the 7 pro but got a VERY great deal on a brand new never used svt 6 pro.

If weight and price is not an issue, what amp would you choose and why? Should I be concerned about the fact the 6 pro is discontinued?

What do you say guys?

On my local music store i will be able to buy a brand new 6 fro the same price as a 7. Should I take it? Or should I go for the newer 7 instead?

I had a 6 Pro a few years back and it's cooling fan was crazy loud all time. It has a parametric eq on it and the 7 Pro doesn't. Personally as stated before, I dropped it to get a 4 Pro and I couldn't stand the loud fan.

The 7Pro has similar tone to a 4pro, with different features and is light.

Switchable, parallel loop with blend

Headphones with line in, etc... the tone is very similar

I did try the 6 today and it sounded really weel. I did not notice the cooling fan at all. What about it? Does the fan start to work harder and sound more when playing for a long time?

But still, wich one would you choose if the best tone is the only criteria?

I'd ask them to drop the price on the 6 even more and take that one. The 6 pro is a very nice amp. I had one, gigged with it for two years, then sold it, now I regret it.. lol.

The only "con" I found with the 6 pro was that it wouldn't do 2 ohms (I had a lot of 4 ohm cabs at the time), and a little bit the weight too.

I tried the 7 at a store and I wasn't too impressed with it.. I will give it another shot again though.

Also depends on what type of music you play. If you like in your face punch and also enjoy the option to go sparkly-high, then the 6 will do it.

Keep in mind the for the most part, the 3, 4, 6, and 7 are all going to pretty much give you what need in a similar fashion.... and that is a line-out to the sound board at most venues...

I have no plans of using 2 x 4-ohm cabs so that will not be an issue to me. The weight doesn't bother me either.

What about the fan, is it that "loud"?

WHen you say sparkly-high, do you mean high volume or high/clear?

i've not played the 7 pro yet, so i can't tell you which i'd choose. i really like the 4 pro, so i imagine the 6 pro would be just as good, but i'm a fan of what they're doing with class d in the micro vr. they're about to release two more class d amps as well. the prices are insane low on them.

and yes, ampeg is good about supporting discontinued amps from what people say on here. maybe not from 20 years ago, but the 6 pro's more recent so it should be good to go.

By sparly-high I mean if you like say the sound of a Music Man stingray slapped then I think the 6 would enphasize that by still having that Ampeg tone.

The 3 I used was more subdued and a little more rounded sound.

Once again, maybe just my experience with the 6pro but it never failed on me once - was very dependable amp.
