Ampeg SVT-810e vs Genz Benz GB-810xb3

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone!
I am about to buy a 8x10 cab to complement my Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 and GBE1200.
I am thinking of the industry standard SVT810 but as I am using the Genz heads, I'm also looking at th 810xb3 as well.
I donīt have a possibility to try the GB out before I order it, so has anyone tried both the SVT and the XB3? What is the tone differencies?

Thanks in advance!

Personally. I have (3) Ampeg 810-E's and match them up with SvT-4Pro and and CL tube among other Ampeg heads. In your case if I already had the 810-E then I'd match it up with the 9.0GbZ.....I have looked at the 9.0 and the Genz cab and I'd go with the total set-up if you have the funds for all of it. Its a great looking rig and I almost bought one myself but I have too much Ampeg stuff right now......good luck.....

IME,the Genz cab will have a bit less low but a LOT less mud. Also, Genz cabs pair beautifully with Genz heads... there's a "duh" statement I'd go XB3.

if by "mud" you mean the 810e doesn't have a tweeter, i'd agree. but they've fixed the muddiness problem since moving to china.

not having played the genz, i don't know how it sounds, but i can tell you that it's ported so it'll go lower, and it has a tweeter so it'll go higher, but has an excellent crossover point (4k) so if you turn the tweeter off it will still have some good high end. if you want the traditional ampeg 810 sound, get an ampeg, but if you want something different, that genz benz cab looks like a nice one.

Thank you guys for your answers!
I am leaning towards the Genz Benz just because I think the SVT can be too muddy for my taste. But I love the Ampeg midrange! Does anyone know how the mids on the Genz Benz are?
