ampeg SVT classic cutting out

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey I got the SVT classic with the 410 cab in August brand new. I have had nothing but problems, my rig worked for the first few weeks fine and and then it started to hiss and distort and then cut out. I was back and forth between guitar center probably 10 times until they finally switched out the head with a brand new one. I took this home, made sure it was properly biased, and it worked for about 5 min and then cut out. What could possibly be wrong? I can't get any sound out of it now. The bass head is the problem, its not my bass or cabinet, and its not a grounding issue. Id apreciate any ideas!

What are the various lights on the front and back panels doing when it cuts out?

It's still under warranty, right?

You've checked the cables as well?

honestly, tube quality isn't what it once was, so i'd be looking at the tubes. generally, the new stuff is very well built but they are at the mercy of current tube production. you could try getting in touch with ampeg cs directly instead of going through gc and maybe get a quicker resolution.

Also, which 410 do you have? If it's the 410he, you're running too high an impedance on the head. If not,....nevermind.

I am also curious about the ohm rating of the cab. I've seen a guy a few weeks back playing a SVT thru a 8 ohm Eden cab and his amp kept cutting out.

That wouldn't do it. I'm using an 8 ohm cab on mine without issues. The technical reasons why this works are available both on TB and the 'net. If the amp is cutting out, it's likely the protection circuits are kicking in. As Jimmy said, the most frequent cause of this is bad tubes. So far the OP has not given us enough info to determine what is going on.
