Ampeg svt classic + Galliem Krueger MBV 410 Cabinet

I have a concern: I have an Ampeg svt-cl 300w head and I brought a Gallien Krueger 410 Mbx (8 Ohms - 400 Watts) Cabinet.
I just wanna make sure that it wont damage my Ampeg to use them together. I dont care if I destroy the GK.

I dont know, I just cant get the impedance stuff right.

Thanks in advance to all the community

Nice thing to say about a good bass cab! Beyond that if the MBX is a 4 ohm cab you are good to go. If the MBX is a 8 ohm cab then it does not meet the impedance needs of the CL. It will be okay for light use but the output section will be stressed due to the improper load.

What he said..that head wants to see at least a 4 ohm load if you're going to push it to it's potential.

I don't think that an 8 ohm cab can hurt it though. You just won't get the same volume/headroom that you would with a 4 or 2 ohm load.

That is the catch with tube output heads, it will send the output tubes into a non-optimal operating point and stress the tubes.

+1 with an all-tube amp, you want to match the impedance exactly. In this case, going over with an 8 ohm cab, use the 4 ohm tap, but understand, you are putting the amp under stress, and will shorten it's life.

Buy another 8 ohm cab.

To my knowledge the 410 MBX was only issued as an 8 Ohm cab--mine's an 8, and the MBX manual only lists an 8.

If that's correct, don't hook it up to that Ampeg by itself. Get another 8 Ohm 410 to use with it or, if that's too much rig, sell it and get a 4 Ohm cab instead.

As far as I know, not matching the impedance required by an all tube head is a very very bad idea...

Soooo...

So can you use two 8 OHM cabs with that head?
I have a vintage SVT and have always wondered if you can push two 8 OHM cabs safely?

Yeah, two 8 Ohm cabs = 4 Ohm load. That amp is spec'd for it. Should be fine.

Wow, I honestly did not know that. I've had my SVT-CL for 4 years but have never used it with anything but a 4 ohm cab. Guess I'm lucky I don't own any 8 ohm cabs

serge, you could probably re-wire that cab to be 2-ohm/safe for use with your SVT.
