Ampeg svt classic + hartke cabs

I'm wondering if an svt classic would work out with 2x4x10 hartke cabs (vx 410). Thinking about buying a full-tube amp, but should I buy new cabs aswell to get the amp sounding as good as possible?

It will work ... but I would opt for a better pair of Hartke cabs.
I use an Orange AD200b with 2 (Mark I) 410XL's and I am as happy as a pig in a pool of mud

Okey... but would it sound better with somekind of hybrid-amp rather than fulltube when using these cabs?

The VX's are lower level cabs. I had the 410VX when I got back into playing four years ago just for something to get up and running with. The cab sounded ok but I wouldnt run a $1500 head through it and expect great results. I was using a Hartke 2500HA amp and the rig sounded decent for the money. Maybe look into a hydrive cab?

I've been thinking about a Mesa Boogie Carbine head aswell, which is both tube and solid state, maybe the cabs would work better with that one? Mesa Boogie-cabs are sooo fuuucking expensive...

To me, the aluminum cone does not sound that good with an Ampeg all tube head. The Boogie cabs are outstanding with the SVT. (I plugged mine into the Powerhouse 4x10 when I still had that head and it sounded awesome). I had my share of Hartke cabs in the 90's and they just sounded "tinny" to me compared to paper\neo cones. I am sure they have improved since then.

I'm sure the Mesa-cabs are outstanding, but a bit too expensive for me But what do you think of using a Mesa Boogie Carbine head 3 with these hartke cabs...?

do you already have the hartke cabs? if not, i would recommend listening to what everyone is telling you about them. the ak's, xl's, and hydrives are very good cabs. the vx cabs are beginner cabs, and there is a reason why they sell for so little money. the ampeg svt-cl is imho the third best bass head of all time behind the svt-vr/vintage svt and the b-15. hooking it up to beginner cabs is like putting wal mart tires on a race car. if you're going to the expense of buying the third greatest bass head of all time, don't pair it up with beginner cabs. you can cheap out on any part of your system besides the cabs and still sound great. but if you cheap out on the cabs, you will always sound cheap no matter what else you have.

I played my SVT-VR through a Hartke 410XL and an SWR Workingman's 410 at an hourly rehearsal space before we got our own room...

It didn't sound altogether 'bad', but not really good, either. Biggest problem was that it felt just 'out of control', which intuition told me was mostly a sealed vs. ported cabinet thing...but it was also when I had just gotten the VR and certainly hadn't mastered the EQ.....still haven't.....probably.....

they are definitely one of the better options, yes. i can't go so far as to say only ampeg cabs work with the cl, but they work better than most. if you already have the vx cabs, though, give it a shot.

It will still sound ok. But if you can save up over time to buy a better cab, it will be noticeable and worth it to you ears.

Allright. But, does somebody know if the mesa boogie carbine head would work with the hartke cabs? Or do they work with any other cabs than mesa boogies own cabs?
