Ampeg SVT Classic issue

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi-
I'm having a reoccurring issue with my SVT-Classic head and I'm sort of at my wits end so I decided to hop on here and see if anyone else has had a similar issue.

I keep blowing out a resistor behind my 0db input jack on my head. I took my head to the tech I always go to and he stated that whatever wall jack I was plugged into was wired incorrectly and blew the resistor. He suggested I purchase a socket tester and to always test sockets before I play. He fixed it and I used it at the next show. During my set, my head blew the resistor again and ruined the entire set. I had tested the sockets before hand and everything checked out clear. Is my tech just giving me a BS answer to get me out the door? It's blown up once during a set and once as soon as I took the head off standby.

All I use is a tuner and a Tech 21 Sans Amp in front of my head. My cab is 4 ohms and I always have the head set at 4ohms. Could it be the Sans Amp? Anyone else run into a similar issue?

Thanks

You need to find an amp tech that knows SVT's, let us know what part of the world you live in and someone here might be able to recommend one in your area.

No it's a brand new Emperor 4x12 cab. I just got it last month, nothing is blown out and it's happened with multiple cabs.

Sorry I've got a good one here in Phoenix but the shipping cost would be ridiculous. If nobody recommends a good SVT tech here in this thread you should probably start another thread asking. You'd have a much better chance if your new threads title read something like: 'Recommend a good SVT amp tech in the Detroit area'.

I find this thread to be particularly disturbing.

After tons of research, I picked up my SVT-CL Tuesday with a 410hlf cab. I plugged into the unpadded input with my passive Schecter. It sounded beautiful. I hit standby, unplugged, and ran my pedals (a tuner-Sansamp-Big Muff) into the -15 input, hit standby, and as described in another thread, it sounded like bacon frying.

My Sansamp level was only at about 10 o'clock and it was the only pedal on at the time. This is the same way I always plugged into my SS Acoustic head.

The amp is at a repair shop, under warranty of course. I'm going to have to watch this thread closely for answers, and as soon as I get a diagnosis for my head, I'll update.

Dark, no idea about techs in your area but I'd get a second opinion.

Immigrant, you're under warranty. Calm down. You waited this long, you can wait a little while longer
