Ampeg SVT Classic Question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys,

I just bought an Ampeg SVT Classic (second hand, about 3 years old made in vietnam)

When I bought the amp it only came with 3 power tubes, as the others went due to a biasing issue some time ago.

I bought a new sextet of valves from Watford Valves (UK and very reputable)

I was playing tonight, for about 3 hours at very low volume, when the amp popped and the safety lights came on.

I turned the amp of waited, then turned it back on and all was fine, all valves glowing nicely, amp paling fine, then I left the amp on to test with no playing input, pop in went again, but it fired up just fine again.

One strange thing that I have noticed with this amp is that when the bass is plugged in, I get a tingle of an electric shock though my strings and bridge, and this is made stronger when I touch my mac book (metal cased laptop)

Any ideas what the issue could be here? Its up and running again just fine now, my first guess is a dodgy power outlet, so I have plugged it into another room.

Also it seems really sensitive to mobile phone interference, is this normal?

Thanks, Ian.
