Ampeg SVT-HD Backplate Dimensions - Help?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm missing the backplate from my SVT-HD (1987 Skunkworks) amp, which I think is the same as the MTI 80's era SVTs.

Any of those 1-500 SVT-HD owners out there willing to measure that thing up and give me some dimensions so I can make an attempt at recreating it?

If you have CAD skills, this would be your time to shine!

Or, even easier... if you can put it on a copier (half at a time or whatever fits) then email PDFs of it and I can CAD it up then post it online for others in the future.

Any help would be great, even overall dimensions as a starting point (outside perimeter)

Thanks!

I can't help you with the HD plate. I know that the plate is not the same as those of the early SVT's.

My 71's backplate measures 22" X 2 7/16" X 0.06".

Thank you Beans. Very much appreciated.

Hopefully someone with an HD or MTI will chime-in, but this is a good starting point.

Are you planning on having a repro made?

I've seen some very nice Fender silk screened faceplate repro's. Amp parts dealers used to cary a wide variety but these days they are mostly on ebay.

There are places that do laser etching or engraving such as amplates, bnplasers, and frontpanelexpress. Amplates is geared for amp builders. The last one is good for custom builds. They are expensive but the final result is top notch. Preparing the graphics takes time. You might find that the most cost effective approach is a local trophy engraver.

I've used water based acrylic to fill in the lettering on etched panels. You apply the paint and wipe the surface. It cleans up easily. The acrylic dries like plastic.

I'm having an Ampeg shop cut me the strip next week (so I think the dimensions you gave me will work just fine), then my half/axed idea is to recreate the wording then print them on white waterside decal paper. Once those are printed and cutout, I'll waterside them in their spots then clearcoat the strip with a flat clear. I'm thinking that may be work.

Ill post the progress here if/once I get around in doing the lettering this way.

Thanks again for your help and recommendations.

Sounds like a good idea.

I would think that as long as the plate doesn't get too hot, it should work.
